About FlikBall – The Story Behind the Flick

FlikBall was born from a simple idea: bring the excitement of soccer to the tabletop in a way that’s fast, fun, and competitive.

It all started with Miguel Hernandez, a lifelong soccer fan from Bilbao, Spain (Aupa Athletic!⚽🔥), who found himself searching for a fun way to pass the long, dark winters in Vancouver, Canada with his wife. Originally considering a card game, he quickly realized he wanted something more fast-paced and thrilling.

That’s when inspiration struck—memories of childhood mini-soccer matches played with a small paper ball and makeshift cardboard goals. As a longtime LEGO enthusiast, Miguel set out to build a prototype using LEGO bricks. Within two hours, the first version of FlikBall was ready!

It all started with a LEGO prototype.

At first, it was too easy to score, so he added a mechanical goalie—a spring-loaded design that could pivot from side to side using a small knob. The first balls? Borrowed foam toys from his cat, Fergus (who, thankfully, didn’t mind too much). To increase the challenge, he introduced a 4-inch “Free Flik Barrier,” simulating free kicks.

The result? Instant fun! Miguel and his wife played for hours. Soon, family, friends, and even their nieces joined in, and before long, the word spread.

We’re currently in the testing phase of FlikBall, playing, tweaking, and gathering feedback to make it the best it can be. Now, as we gear up for launch, we’re more excited than ever to share FlikBall with the world. We’re getting close, and we’d love for you to be part of the journey—from these final testing stages all the way to launch day and beyond.
