Why did I create FlikBall?

I’ve been an avid and soccer player and LEGO enthusiast for as long as I can remember.

Well, winters in Vancouver, Canada are long, grey, and rainy so playing soccer becomes almost impossible. This is the time of the year when many Canadians dedicate time to indoor activities such as reading, movie binging, board games, online gaming.. or in my case, listening to audiobooks, playing with LEGO (Technics to be precise), inventing random things, or eating cookies (or all of the above)

I have a few inventions under my name, but I never had come up with a board game. One night, my wife and I were playing cards and I thought It would be cool to come up with a soccer themed card game and release it just before the upcoming 2026 soccer World Cup.

The first prototype made of LEGO

After a few iterations, it was clear that my card game lacked the excitement of the real game. That’s when I thought to make it into a toy instead. So I grabbed my LEGO boxes and after a few hours I built the first FlikBall prototype.

The Flik Wall

After a few games shooting penalty kicks, it was obvious that scoring was relatively easy if we flicked from less than 2 feet from the goal. To make it more challenging, I decided to add a barrier to level up from penalty kicks to free kicks.

Adding the barrier made it more challenging but way more satisfying to score goals. With a bit of practice, we got really good at “bending” the soccer ball around or over the wall, just like in the real world!

Playing FlikBall really feels like bringing some of the soccer magic to your tabletop. Now I’m trying to get better at flicking with my non-dominant hand and even trying to recreate famous free kicks like the one from Roberto Carlos in 1997 (google it!)

And now over to you…

What are you looking forward the most about FlikBall?

Do you like soccer? Have you played any other tabletop dexterity games?
